The Block on Baltimore Street Is an American Adult-Entertainment Landmark
The Block — two blocks of East Baltimore Street between Gay and President — is one of the oldest continuously operating adult-entertainment districts in the United States, dating to the 1930s burlesque era. The Gayety, Club Pussycat, and a handful of remaining rooms have survived decades of shrinkage, urban renewal, and enforcement campaigns.
Maryland law regulates the Block with specific local ordinances that treat it as a legacy district. The format is topless-with-alcohol; the rooms are small, old, and carry a particular Baltimore honesty — no pretense, no VIP-room glamour.
The neighborhood immediately around the Block can feel uneven after dark. Uber directly to the door, walk between the venues on the two-block stretch, Uber out. Don't wander.
